We all know the power of Learning Outside the Classroom – so how can your school make the best use of its outdoor areas as learning resources? We’re delighted to be able to offer four exciting, half-day CPD opportunities to primary schools, each one tailored to meet your needs …
Learning Outside the Classroom – Opportunities and Challenges
This experiential programme will see us working together to explore some of the theory underpinning Learning Outside the Classroom, together with a variety of national and international case studies. We’ll then actively investigate the opportunities that your outdoor spaces offer for teaching and learning across the curriculum and look together at some of the challenges you might face – before reflecting on ways of turning these into further opportunities.
Maths Alfresco
The world around us is built from shapes and numbers – from the hexagons that form the basis of every snowflake to the Fibonacci sequences in seeds. So let us support you and your colleagues in reimagining your outdoor spaces as a series of interactive and stimulating maths trails, accessible to all ages!

Maths Alfresco
An absolutely superb INSET – thank you for your professionalism, knowledge and excellent interpersonal skills!

Sustainable Science
Science can be messy as well as fun – so the outdoors is a great space for experiments! In this programme, we’ll explore some of the differences between natural events and those caused by humans, recreating caldera volcanoes and investigating the impacts of deforestation.

Outdoor learning through the seasons
Our Year 6 children achieved incredible results in their literacy SATs this year – and I am sure that working with as creatives on Sustainable Science had a very positive impact on these results!

Words Without Walls
The most authentic writing is born in experience – so the outdoor world is a perfect environment for propagating the imagination, growing ideas and nurturing inspiration. In Words Without Walls we’ll guide you through a series of activities specifically designed to motivate writing – from poetry to play scripts to powerful persuasion.

Inspiring a love of writing ...
The writing tasks were challenging – but the children were really enthused by the approaches used. They’ve learned more from this than from a thousand worksheets!
Teacher, Holy Family Primary School
With the majority of each session being delivered outside, our approaches utilise hands-on, practical methodologies and techniques that will leave your staff with strategies they can use in their own practice the very next day. To maximise opportunities for outdoor learning, staff will be provided with handouts detailing many of the activities they have experienced.
Programmes for KS1 and KS2 Children
We have also developed a range of Learning Outside the Classroom programmes where we work directly with KS1 and KS2 children. These can be stand-alone – or booked along with an INSET. These include Developing Maths Trails, Outdoor Science Hypotheses and Tests (science in the open air), Creative Writing Trails and supporting and celebrating learning through Outdoor Art.
